Violence does not start
\nwith one person strangling another,
\nIt begins when one person says:
\n“I love you:
\nYou belong to me!”<\/p>\n

Violence does not start
\nwith the euthanasia of the sick,
\nIt begins when one person says:
\n“You are sick:
\nYou must do as I say!”<\/p>\n

Violence starts
\nwhen parents oppress obediant children,
\nand when popes, teachers and parents
\nall demand self-restraint.<\/p>\n

Violence reigns
\nwhen the government dictates:
\n“In order to fight violence,
\nthere is to be no violence except OURS.<\/p>\n

Violence reigns
\neverywhere a person or object
\nis too high or too holy
\nto be criticized.<\/p>\n

Or where criticism is reduced
\nto empty words
\nAnd the high and mighty
\nmay employ more than just words.<\/p>\n

Violence reigns where people say:
\n“you may use violence”
\nbut also where people say:
\n“you may not use violence.”<\/p>\n

Violence reigns
\nwhen political opponents are locked up
\nunder allegations
\nof inciting violence.<\/p>\n

The Law of Violence states:
\n“What we do is right,
\nWhat others do
\nis violence.”<\/p>\n

Perhaps violence can never
\nbe overcome with violence
\nBut it probably won’t
\nbe overcome without it either.<\/p>\n
