{"id":225645,"date":"2019-10-15T10:56:15","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T08:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/2019\/biber-03-press-release\/"},"modified":"2020-05-16T15:25:11","modified_gmt":"2020-05-16T13:25:11","slug":"biber-03-press-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/en\/biber-03-press-release\/","title":{"rendered":"Biber 03: Press Release"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Press Release on the completion of the Third Biber Contest<\/h3>\n<p>The Third <em>Biber<\/em> Short Story Contest, with authors writing in Albanian, Macedonian, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Montenegrin, has been completed.<\/p>\n<p>The jury, consisting of Rumena Bu\u017earovska, Lejla Kalamuji\u0107 and Shkelzen Maliqi, has selected the prize-winning stories and those that will be published in the collection.<\/p>\n<p>The jury\u2019s decision can be found below.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Biber<\/em> Contest was open from January to June this year. A total of 464 stories were submitted. The Contest included stories about reconciliation in the context of the legacy of the wars and violence in the countries of former Yugoslavia, as well as stories contributing to better understanding among people, reducing hatred and dismantling prejudice, anti-war stories, stories about dealing with the past, deconstructing images of the enemy, empathy, brave stories that dare walk in the \u2018enemy\u2019s\u2019 shoes, stories that push boundaries and open up the way to build a more stable, safer and freer future for all.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank all the authors who participated in the contest, as well as the jury who made the final decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The short stories will be published in a multilingual collection by March 2020. The jury decided unanimously to award the following stories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Third prize:\u00a0<strong><em>Ma\u010detom \u0107e\u0161 me, ma\u010detom \u0107u te<\/em><\/strong><em> [Machete You Me, Machete Me You],\u00a0<\/em> by <strong>Tamara Kova\u010devi\u0107<\/strong>\u00a0from Ljubljana;<\/li>\n<li>Second prize:\u00a0<strong><em>Lito<\/em><\/strong> [Summer], by\u00a0<strong>Ante Stori\u0107<\/strong>\u00a0from \u0160ibenik;<\/li>\n<li>First prize:\u00a0<strong><em>Glava<\/em><\/strong><em> [Head], by\u00a0<\/em><strong>Monika Herceg<\/strong>\u00a0from Petrinja.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The prize-winning stories feature effective narrative structures, sophisticated style and precise language. Each of them is profoundly emotional and treats its topic with a high degree of understanding and empathy, but without shying away from criticism.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the prize-winning stories, the <em>Biber 03<\/em> Collection will also feature the stories submitted by the following authors: Abid Jari\u0107, Afrim Demiri, Aida \u0160e\u010di\u0107 Nezirevi\u0107, Aneta Petru\u0161evska, Besa Kalaja, Bojan Todorovi\u0107, Bojana Babi\u0107 Dimitrije Bukvi\u0107, Dragana Ran\u0111elovi\u0107, Ernad Osmi\u0107, Gabrijel Deli\u0107, Gordana Stojanoska, Imer Topanica, Isidora Petrovi\u0107, Luiza Bouharaoua, Manja Veli\u010dkovska, Mario Merd\u017ean, Milana Gajovi\u0107, Nikola Petrovi\u0107, Sla\u0111ana Nina Perkovi\u0107, Stefan Slavkovi\u0107, and Tihana Gambira\u017ea.<\/p>\n<p>These are diverse short prose forms where we find: intimate accounts of the wars in the former Yugoslavia, being a refugee, dealing with trauma, examinations of evil in people, but also the good, encounters with refugees in the 21st century, all the way up to dystopian visions.
