{"id":233862,"date":"2021-10-01T23:11:28","date_gmt":"2021-10-01T21:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/biber-in-podgorica\/"},"modified":"2021-11-02T08:27:15","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T07:27:15","slug":"biber-in-podgorica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/en\/biber-in-podgorica\/","title":{"rendered":"Biber in Podgorica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, 1 October 2021, at the invitation of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Montenegro, the Cultural Information Centre (KIC) Budo Tomovi\u0107 in Podgorica hosted the Centre for Nonviolent Action Sarajevo\/Belgrade as the organiser of the promotion of two short story collections about reconciliation, <em>Biber 03<\/em> and <em>Biber 04. <\/em>The collections were presented as part of the 12 Days of Peace campaign conducted by diplomatic missions of Bosnia and Herzegovina to mark the International Day of Peace (21 September) and the International Day of Nonviolence (2 October).<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Biber<\/em> collections and stories were presented by: <strong>Lejla Kalamuji\u0107<\/strong>, a writer from Sarajevo and member of the <em>Biber 03<\/em> jury, <strong>Milica Ra\u0161i\u0107<\/strong>, a writer from Ni\u0161 whose story <a href=\"https:\/\/biber.nenasilje.org\/prica\/miris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Miris<\/em><\/a> [Scent] was published in the <em>Biber 04<\/em> collection; <strong>Afrim Demiri<\/strong>, a writer from Uro\u0161evac whose story <a href=\"https:\/\/biber.nenasilje.org\/prica\/hladno-svetlo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Hladno svetlo<\/em><\/a> [Cold Light] was published in the <em>Biber 03<\/em> collection; <strong>Nikola Nikoli\u0107<\/strong>, a writer from Podgorica whose story <a href=\"https:\/\/biber.nenasilje.org\/prica\/antifada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Antifada<\/em><\/a> is included in the <em>Biber 04<\/em> collection, and <strong>Ivana Franovi\u0107<\/strong>, member of the Biber Team and the Centre for Nonviolent Action from Belgrade. The panel discussion was moderated by <strong>Ned\u017ead Novali\u0107<\/strong>, a member of the Centre for Nonviolent Action from Sarajevo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2231-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-233786 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2231-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1708\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2231-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2231-1280x854.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2231-980x654.jpg 980w, https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2231-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) and (max-width: 1280px) 1280px, (min-width: 1281px) 2560px, 100vw\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Biber is a short story contest for engaged stories in Albanian, Macedonian, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian and Montenegrin. The theme of the competition is reconciliation in the context of the aftermath of the wars and violence in the countries of former Yugoslavia, but also eligible are stories that can contribute to better understanding among people, reducing hatred and dismantling prejudice, anti-war stories, stories about dealing with the past, deconstructing images of the enemy, about empathy, brave stories that dare walk in the \u201cenemy\u2019s\u201d shoes, stories that push boundaries and open up the way to build a more stable, safer and freer future for all. The competition is organised by the Biber team of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre for Nonviolent Action<\/a> Sarajevo-Belgrade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lejla Kalamuji\u0107<\/strong>, a writer from Sarajevo and member of the jury for the third Biber contest said that Biber has attracted significant attention in literary circles. \u201cIt has found its place, because it brings together people writing about war to ensure that it never happens again,\u201d she said in Podgorica.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA writer acts like a confessor of sins, writing about the sins of others, not his own, but still asking that they be forgiven,\u201d <strong>Afrim Demiri<\/strong>, a writer from Uro\u0161evac, Kosovo, described the role of writers in reconciliation processes, adding that he is concerned about young people going to war again one day. \u201cThere is a saying in the Albanian tradition to the tune of \u2018one more male \u2013 one more rifle\u2019, but I wish it was: one more mind, one more love, one more pen&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2194-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-233778 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2194-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1708\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2194-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2194-1280x854.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2194-980x654.jpg 980w, https:\/\/nenasilje.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/20211001_TMR_CNA_2194-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) and (max-width: 1280px) 1280px, (min-width: 1281px) 2560px, 100vw\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Recalling that the attack on Dubrovnik took place on today\u2019s date, 1 October 1991, <strong>Nikola Nikoli\u0107<\/strong> from Podgorica pointed out that history cannot convey to ordinary people even a fraction of what ordinary people suffer in war, but literature can. \u201cVictims are anonymous in history, they don\u2019t have a voice of their own, but literature gives them a voice,\u201d said Nikola Nikoli\u0107.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s harder to talk about the war from the perspective of someone who was a victim or someone who was a perpetrator,\u201d wondered <strong>Milica Ra\u0161i\u0107<\/strong> from Ni\u0161 whose story was published in the Biber 04 collection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ivana Franovi\u0107<\/strong> from the Centre for Nonviolent Action and the Biber Team said that\u00a0 \u201cWriting engaged literature that promotes human rights, reconciliation, love&#8230; you as authors give us working on these topics incredible support, we feel that we are not alone. The nationalist discourse uses literature, but so can we.
