I was thirteen years old when the war started in BiH, old enough to understand what was going on. Unfortunately, also old enough to remember how much evil war brings and the kind of consequences it leaves. Over the past two decades, I’ve been working as a reporter and war and post-war topics are inevitable. I am trying to understand what causes crisis and conflicts in societies and how wars come about. How is it possible for schoolmates, neighbours, friends, even brothers, to become mortal enemies overnight.
I got part of the answer at the training organised by the Centre for Nonviolent Action in Ulcinj. A group of twenty participants, together with the trainers, isolated for ten days, with lots of interactive workshops. We sifted through our feelings, traumas, memories.
The training is very intensive, interactive, educational, it overwhelms you with emotions from time to time, but it all makes sense. You learn life lessons and make friends for life. One of the rare workshops that is completely meaningful and useful. As soon as I got back, I started telling my friends and people I knew to sign up for future workshops, and those who took my advice didn’t regret it.
