On Saturday 29 June 2013, at Podsjelovo Hill (Site 715), the Committee for Marking Important Dates and the Organisation Committee of Disabled War Veterans from Zavidovići, with the support of the Zavidovići Municipality, held a commemorative event to mark the anniversary of a battle that took place in this area in 1994, which the local community consider crucial for the defence of Zavidovići and the surrounding area.
At the invitation of the organisers, a group of war veterans (former members of HVO, Army of RBiH and VRS), associates of CNA, attended this event to honour the fallen and convey a symbolic message of reconciliation. We were included in the protocol and laid a wreath along with other representatives of the local authorities, families of the deceased and veterans’ organisations, and we attended the programme that was organised.
We hope to continue this practice of war veterans from all armies attending commemorations of significant dates from the 1992-95 war in other parts of the region where we might serve as an example that joint remembering and honouring of the fallen in the war in BiH is possible.
