On 26 March, a commemoration was held in the settlement of Sijekovac, Brod Municipality, to mark twenty three years since the deaths of Serb civilians from this settlement.
The commemoration was organised by the Republika Srpska Government Committee for Fostering the Traditions of Liberation Wars. The programme comprised a religious ceremony, laying of wreaths, and speeches by officials of Republika Srpska and the Brod Municipality.
This was the first time that we from the Centre for Nonviolent Action, together with a mixed group of war-veterans, participated at this type of event organised in Republika Srpska as an official delegation recognised by the protocol.
Namely, our previous experience had shown that commemorations under the auspices of the Republika Srpska Government are determined by a special procedure. With the support of the Disabled War-Veterans Committee and Veterans Organisation of the Brod Municipality, we conducted all the necessary preparations, so the RS Government allowed us to attend this event as a peace organisation bringing together war-veterans in the interest of peacebuilding, together with war-veterans from Croatia and both BiH entities.
