The peace award will be presented on 6th March 2027 in Göttingen, Germany to two sister organisations who share a decades long efforts in peacebuilding:
Centre for nonviolent action Sarajevo – Belgrade and
Centre for education and networking KURVE Wustrow.
The Göttingen Peace Prize is awarded annually since 1999 to individuals and organisations that have made an exceptional contribution to peace, whether through academic or practical means, and that are committed to promoting social understanding.
The award jury stated:
“KURVE Wustrow e.V. and the Centre for Nonviolent Action are brilliant examples of sustainable peace work. They contribute in many different ways to trustbuilding and forging bridges in societies ravaged by war; and they support people who are committed to peaceful conflict transformation and who nonviolently struggle to overcome authoritarian structures. The fact that nonviolent means can be politically highly effective has been demonstrated, amongst other things, by the years of student protests in Serbia: through creativity and perseverance, they won over many people and thus played a decisive role in bringing down, in the October elections, a regime that was increasingly restricting democratic rights.”
The Centre for Nonviolent Action would like to express its gratitude for the recognition of our peacebuilding efforts.
This award belongs also to many of our partners who share our struggle for peace and freedom, who have weaved themselves in our joint efforts to make our region a place more safe, more free and worth living for generations that come and all people who live here, independent of the language they speak, faith they share or identities they choose.
